What ever the Auction Car Cost is,

You must also add the Japanese Export Companies FOB Fees (Free on Board)

This can vary between JPY 100,000 up to 200,000 depending on the value of the car,

This is standard practice throughout the Japanese vehicle export business and goes to pay for,

1/ Hands on Inspection of the vehicle in the auction

2/ Submitting Auction Bids

3/ De registration of the car in Japan,

4/ Application for an export certificate

5/ Inland vehicle transport from the place of purchase to the bonded yard in the Japanese port,

6/ Japanese Port handling fees,

7/ Admin of Booking of Shipping Space, Invoices, Bills of laden,

8/ International Posting of all documents to the UK,

All cars purchased for export must pay a Japanese Agents export FOB fees,

What other costs and charges is there to pay?

Besides our commission, what ever the fob price is you divide by the exchange rate of the day Japanese Yen to UK Pounds Sterling then add the Shipping charges, Multiply by 10% Duty, and then Multiply by 15 % VAT,

Then customs clearance Agents charges of £180.00, And now your car is ready to be collected from the port, You will need to MOT the car £45.00 but if the car is under 10 years old you will also need to have it SVA/IVA test at an approximate cost of £500 to £1000 on average. After you have completed this you can register the car that DVLA, Registration fee is £55.00,

This is intended as a Guide Only

Are the cars better or worse than UK supplied cars?

In our opinion much better, with no winter salt on the roads in Japan there’s very little corrosion, and due to the very high cost of road toll charges and the driving conditions the cars have an easier life, The Japanese tend to leave the car at home and travel by train,

So a car that is eight years old will be in the same condition as a three to four year old car supplied in the UK

They nearly always come with a very high specification and coupled with the reputation of Japanese cars for there reliability makes them excellent cars to own.

All cars in have to go through a major examination test (Shaken) This test is done when the car is three years old and again at five, seven, and nine, and so on,

The cost is very high as parts have to be replaced over all some £1500 so when a car has run out of its Shaken its value has just gone down, and this is the main reason for the cars being so cheap on the Japanese Domestic Market.

What are the best models to buy?

Anything with the Biggest ( WOW ) Factor,

Such as One Owner, Low Mileage, with Hand Books Also a High Auction Gradings such as 4 / 4.5 / 5

These cars are easier to secure through our Buy to Order Option

You just Cherry-Pick them out of 100,000 cars at the Japanese Auctions each week

Also cars that will have high values hear in the UK such as Off Road 4x4, MPV, High Performance Sports Models, and Camper Vans, Luxury Saloons,

The range is too long to list but in general any high value model is worth importing as you will then make a large saving on UK prices and secure a very nice car in the process

Which is best- To buy from the Stock List or Bid at Auction?

The choice is yours

Stock List Purchase or Buy to Order

You may choose from the stock list of cars located in the bonded export yards in Japan or at sea in transit to the UK and take your time without any pressure

However if you are looking for something particularly good

Then as fresh cars come on to the stock list you have to remember that so is everybody ells

So you must be quick when you see what you want

With Buy to Order you can Target a car direct in the Japanese Auction

This is the best way to buy should you be looking for something in particular in the way of Make Model, Mileage, Colors, and condition

For example most export dealers don’t target very low mileage car for export because they are bidding against dealer from the domestic market and don’t see as much profit in these cars,

But in particular For a Personal Importer this is where you can buy a Top Quality Car and make Big Savings in the Process  However a bid deposit must be paid before a bid can be made for any car

See Import Buy to Oder Page.

Where can I get insurance for my imported car?

Do not allow yourself to be over charged by the insurance industry be sure to shop around

They like to use any excuse they can find ways to get away with over charging

You have to work just a bit harder but you will find a company that will offer the right policy at the right price

Points to watch for

They ask lots of questions to find something that they can use as an excuse to say

Arrrrr now that will cost you more

Don’t fall for it

They are trained to get out of you as much as they can

And you are not

We will always help with your serach for insurance companies

Its always a good idea to take a look at the owners clubs website

  What is an ESVA/IVA Test?

A test that is carried out by VOSA to establish that a RHD vehicle that is under ten years old is suitable to be used on the UK roads from a Type Approval point of view, This is Not an MOT test,

On the 1st May 2009 the UK Government introduced New IVA Testing Rules for Imported Cars

These new IVA Rules are a Major Change and have replaced the previous ESVA Testing rules

As a result of these changes we can now target and import many more Models than ever before,

Cars that have been registred in Japan for more than Six Months can be imported into the UK but must pass an IVA tests before being registred here in the UK

Plus VOSA Testing fees have reduced and Model Reports are no longer required making for significant cost reductions in the UK Registration process of imported cars

Vehicles imported that are over ten years old only need

an MOT Only before being registered at the DVLA

Vehicle imported that are under ten years old needs to be IVA tested before they are registered at the DVLA, there are number of companies throughout the UK who can offer this service

We are always happy to introdce our customers to companies who provied this service and arrange for IVA test to be carried out on your behalf,

You may should you wish do it yourself.
